Meditation teacher, Miles Sherts, offers an introduction to the 23-day, Beyond Perception: An Insight Meditation and Ayahuasca Retreat at the Temple, where he will be offering meditation guidance and classes in tandem with a team of traditional Shipibo healers, who will be leading night-time ayahuasca ceremonies.
In this very special program, we will combine the ancient practices of Insight Meditation from the Theravada Buddhist monasteries of Southeast Asia and Traditional Amazonian Medicine with ayahuasca ceremonies and healing facilitated by Shipibo Onanya (healers) of the Peruvian Amazon. The synthesis of these two systems enables a deep exploration of the self and an opportunity for transformation at a core level.
Both of these ancient traditions are designed to shift us from our familiar mental framework to see the root cause of the problems we are trying to solve. Forming a perfect compliment, they enable us to navigate our consciousness deeply, maintaining presence and equanimity. From this expanded perspective, we can see how our struggles originate in the way we perceive and respond to our circumstances, rather than in the circumstances themselves, transforming our experience of life.
Miles trained in Insight Meditation in a Buddhist Monastery in Sri Lanka in 1976. He has attended numerous intensive silent retreats from 10 days to 3 months in length, practiced daily for over 40 years, and taught meditation for the past 20 years. He began working with ayahuasca at the Temple in 2013 and has over 40 years of experience using psychotropic medicines for self-awareness and spiritual growth. His passion is helping people become self-aware, discover their life’s purpose, and grow to their fullest potential. Miles has authored several books, and is the founder and co-manager of Sky Meadow Retreat in Vermont, USA, where he leads retreats in Insight Meditation and Conscious Communication Skills.
